Sunday Funday 4-Kemmangundi

10 February 2008, Sunday
And I finally come to the most amazing treking trip I have been to...with the most amazing people in my group
Kemmangundi is a small hill station-no it's not snowy or even cold-situated in the Western Ghats and about 6-8 hours by bus from Manipal
Red-X..our college's Adventure group...had planned this trek to Kemmangundi. We boarded the bus on Saturday midnight and went screaming and singing at the top of our voices and having fun all night long
We reached this place by morning and then had a small uphill climb through the botanical gardens to a place where we refreshed ourselves and brushed and clicked loads o pics...the view of sunrise there was awesome
We moved on towards Z-point which is the end hilly point of Kemmangundi...it is quite a long trek through mountain trails and a waterfall and stretches across two mountains....
Z-point has a beautiful 360-degree view...you can see for miles and miles on end. The best part is that you are actually in the midst of clouds at that point...so above and below is just cloud cover.
Moving back from that place...we had lunch in the bus while we moved on towards this place from where we were supposed to go to Hebbe Falls. Seriously speaking, none of us ever thought going downhill would be difficult. But trust me...when you have to walk downhill continuously for one and a half hour on stretch...you'll know what i'm talking about...plus three river streams to cross barefoot was painful coz either the rocks were too sharp or people kept falling because of the excessively slippery rocks...
But we finally reached the Hebe Falls...and the whole thing was worth it. Such huge falls falling from such great heights...plus crystal clear cold water...everyone enjoyed thoroughly...
On the way back everyone was tired and came uphill by jeep...and then we changed into dry clothes in the bus and slept on our way back to college...and as usual in class too the next day!

The Lunchbox Trek to the Riverside

15 January 2008, Tuesday

Well as promised...I bring you my first proper post with some real cool fun I had 2 days back
Well I had this lunch break from 12:30 to 2...had a lecture at 2 pm...so had lunch at the canteen and then began roaming about...wasn't really interested in walking back to the hostel in this blazing sun...
Anyway on my way back met a friend of mine called Sumanth...he's also in 1st year but a localite...and that's why he's got his own bike...so after a little chit chat we decided to go on a bike ride coz we didn't have class for another 45 mins...drove till end point.
Now people who know me know that I generally come up with real whacky ideas.....I mean anything can happen when I'm around...so I tell him,"Hey we got 40 mins...why dont we go down to the river and come back up again?"
For those who do not know....End Point is the mountainous end of Manipal from which you below...it's like 20 can have a panoramic view of the whole valley...and it has a river flowing way down storeys down...approx. that height yeah...so it was really a crazy idea especially since we both had never been down there through this way and the way consisted of wild bushes and trees and creatures of all kinds....
Slipping through the slopes....grabbing onto anything we could find...roots, stems jutting out, whatever we could find...we finally reached this building under construction midway after which it was just a small climb down to the river
And my my...it's a beautiful sight....a boat was anchored to the river bank....the pics came out real well
By then it was already 1:37 so we decided to rush back...climbing was easier than descending...although my dear inexperienced friend did encounter a few slips here and there...and thorns....and all this in the sweltering afternoon sun...knowing that if we don't reach college by 2 we're doomed!
Just rushed back to the hill top...sped back to college...and reached back 2 minutes short of 2 pm...and exhilarating experience nonetheless, and a perfect time to while away a lazy afternoon with some real mountain trekking...that's what I like about Manipal...places are so nearby and sooooo beautiful.
That's it for this one...will update when i have another crazy adventure...or when I click some good stuff worth displaying...
Comments...points for improvement...always welcome!
